Established December 2016

Flaunt It Movement is a grassroots youth-led social purpose organization that fosters self-love, highly-esteemed representation and leadership opportunities for 2SLGBTQIA+ Black, Indigenous, Women (and Gender-Diverse) of Colour [BIWOC] through the arts, activism and entrepreneurship.

Our organization comprises a community artist collective, non-profit social enterprise, and creative co-working studio that empowers and celebrates the endeavours of women and gender-diverse (e.g., femmes and non-binary) people, primarily based in Northwest Toronto's low-income and marginalized neighbourhoods.

Our Programming Initiatives

Visual Anthology

Canada's largest & first 2LSLGBTQ+ BIPOC-focused visual anthology publication, featuring over 100 artists' projects.

Creative Internship

An annual paid intensive incubator program for young women and gender-diverse youth to explore multidisciplinary arts, creative entrepreneurship and career development.

Community Events

Since August 2016, Flaunt-It has hosted a range of inclusive, safe spaces for our community to come together, such as our annual Community Arts Festival.

Annual Campaigns

Our organization started by developing "creative campaigns," a series of projects led by our community of creative entrepreneurs, community organizations and youth. Since 2016, Flaunt-It has become known for using photo series, short films, performances, events, and more to help bring awareness or fundraise for causes affecting our community.

Through these campaigns, we use artistic activism, community organizing and storytelling to advocate for different causes and themes related to our work. After years of creating different multidisciplinary projects, we eventually developped our official programming in 2021. Nonetheless, our programming initiatives continue to correlate with the annual campaign/message of the year and our organization continues to develop different series.

Over 500+ Stories Documented

Since August 2016, over 500 individual portraits and stories have been captured of women at our events. All were shot by racialized women photographers from low-income communities to support their portfolio development. 90% of our guests shared that they feel more empowered after attending our initiatives/projects. The remaining 10% still shared that they had a positive experience.

Over 2000 Attendees

Since 2016, we have organized over 30 events. These are inclusive, safe spaces, open photoshoots, exhibits, small business markets and/or showcases to celebrate emerging artists. Each event reaches its maximum capacity (average 50-100 guests).

Over 250 Paid Opportunities

Since 2021, Flaunt-It has hired nearly 30 low-income youth for full-time and part-time/summer contracts with average wages between $17-$20/hr. The remaining paid opportunities include honouraria, artist fees and stipends for various emerging artists, workshop facilitators, performers and more.

For Us, By Us.

Our organization serves 2SLGBTQ+ BIPOC women/gender-diverse folks. Our team comprises queer racialized low-income women and non-binary youth artists, activists, scholars and entrepreneurs between the ages of 18-24. We are committed in dismantling the barriers we faced as marginalized youth.

Success Beyond Limits

"As a fellow community organization located in the Jane-Finch area of Toronto, we have witnessed first-hand the impact of strong leadership when it’s the right people behind it. Flaunt-It has demonstrated this leadership through an extraordinary commitment to empowering young people and creating pathways for their growth. At the root of Flaunt-It’s impact are people who have found their calling. They created new relationships and found strong mentors to foster their dreams."
