Makeup Artist, Hairstylist
Meet Chantel Cabral (she/her)
Chantel Cabral (she/her) is a Christian, Filipina-Canadian artist, passionate about makeup and hairstyling. From a young age, Chantel was inspired by makeup influencers and salon visits, captivated by the motion of swiping eyeshadow across eyelids and the sound of blow dryers. Chantel began practicing makeup and hairstyling on herself, which deepened her love for cosmetology. She knew this was her true purpose and believed she could make an impact through this.
Chantel uses her talents to glorify God and embraces all skin tones and hair textures. She gained hands-on experience at a salon through a co-op class and mentorship by Flaunt-It. Chantel continues to practice makeup and hairstyling to improve her skills. She is striving to build a business that celebrates all skin tones and hair textures, aiming for communities to feel seen in their natural beauty. In the future, Chantel will become a hair apprentice and attend cosmetology school for makeup artistry. She aspires to work across fields, including bridal, special events, and the film industry.
"New Things Come"
Makeup and Hairstyling by Chantel Cabral — Artist Statement [EXCERPT]
To me, makeup and hairstyling are not just ways to enhance appearance, but powerful tools for storytelling. My piece, titled “New Things Come,” uses cosmetology and photography to express various different parts of my journey: what I lost, how I grew, and what I received as a blessing. Going through different seasons of life inspired me to create this project. Though I was hesitant to pursue this idea because I feared judgment, the possibility of connecting with others gave me the confidence to do so. This project showcases my emotions in different seasons of my life and glorifies God for being there with me, despite the circumstances. The themes are loss, hope, and new beginnings. I want to emphasize that makeup and hairstyling are not just enhancements; they are powerful tools for expressing truth and emotions that cannot be articulated.
I hope viewers connect with this piece, seeing healing and growth emerge even from difficult seasons, reminding them that greater things are ahead. Over time, my work has become intentional, focusing on storytelling through visuals and details. Moving forward, I will continue to glorify God through my art and collaborate with other artists to emphasize the power of visual storytelling.
