Meet Precious Oladekoye
Precious Oladekoye (she/her) is a beginner makeup artist with a strong ambition to grow and expand her platform. She currently attends James Cardinal McGuigan High School. Precious was nominated for leadership class because her school administration believes she displays exceptional leadership qualities.
Although she began her makeup journey in early 2023, Precious has always had so much love for the arts, such as painting, drawing, and, of course, makeup, but she was not confident in herself enough to pursue it. Some barriers she faced included self-doubt and a lack of space to practice and advance her skills. She decided to pursue her art form when she joined the Flaunt-It Creative Internship. Learning about the internship made her realize that she can pursue and get credit for her talent. Precious has gained a lot of knowledge and understanding about what it means to be a makeup artist through her mentor, Isabella Koul. In 10 years, she believes that whatever she feels called to, is what she will excel in.

Makeup By Precious Oladekoye — Artist Statement [EXCERPT]
My piece, titled “Journey To Serenity,” illustrates hardships from my life that I have overcome through the art of makeup and my journey finding God during that tough phase of my life.
In pursuing this piece, my desire is to remind others and myself that regardless of whatever happens in one's life, we should always have hope and keep our faith in God because it most definitely does get better — I am living proof. The themes I have for this project are sadness and anger, the primary emotions I encountered during that phase of my life. Then, I proceeded to incorporate the emotion of joy, which represents how I felt after I gave my life and worries to the Lord. Through my art piece, I am showcasing emotions like sadness and anger using makeup. Sadness is portrayed with subtle tones and tear effects, while anger is expressed through bold colours and sharp lines. My makeup artistry tells a powerful story visually, capturing deep emotions without words. I hope to inspire others to express their feelings through the mediums they love, such as an art piece like the one I am creating through this project.
